David R. Gentile, MD, FACS, Guest Lecturer at Drew University
Dr. David Gentile, orthopaedic surgeon at Professional Orthopaedic Associates in Tinton Falls, was a guest lecturer at his alma mater, Drew University, in Madison, New Jersey. Dr. Gentile was invited to speak to upper-level anatomy and physiology students by Professor A.J. Russo, Ph.D. Dr. Gentile spoke about rotator cuff disease, biceps injuries, labral injuries (including SLAP lesions) and shoulder instability. He stressed the importance of having a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology and how that knowledge can be applied to practical situations in the various health fields.
Since many of these students are planning to pursue careers in medicine, he spoke to the students about the medical field in general and a typical day for an orthopaedic surgeon. This typical day may include seeing patients in the office, dictating notes, providing orthopaedic hospital rounds, performing surgery, providing on-site medical coverage for athletic events, etc.
Dr. Gentile specializes in shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, knee and sports medicine. After completing his undergraduate degree at Drew University, Dr. Gentile went on to earn his medical degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Monmouth Medical Center and then underwent a hand, microvascular, and upper extremity fellowship at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Gentile is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
