Patient Reviews: Dr. Christopher Johnson
Christopher D. Johnson, MD, FACS
The following are reviews from patients of Dr. Johnson.
“Dr. Johnson, I just wanted to take a minute to praise your staff! From making my 1st appointment, requesting medical records and asking for billing help, I received top notch customer / patient service. I got what I needed and I got extra help with my billing issue. Not only a call back from Carol, but followup from others on staff on my behalf. Your staff goes above and beyond what you need. They are pleasant, helpful and they deliver on their promises. I just thought you should know, because these days this is EXTREMELY RARE Thanks for a great experience. You guys are top notch!!”

“Dear Dr. Gabison, I would be re-mill if I didnt express my deepest appreciation for all youve done and the very patient and professional way you dealt with me and my frustrations with the healing process. It was far longer than I expected but I am back to tennis 3x/week - no swelling! Yeah! I am also walking with no pain and no swelling. Im back and very grateful. Thank you so much!”
– J. Kulat
“Dr. Gentile, Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to experience what the field of orthopaedics is really like. I am very grateful that you allowed me to work with you for the past eight weeks. You explained so much and really included me during the appointments. I was able to absorb information and have experiences that I could never get from a classroom. You were truly a great mentor! Thank you of accommodating my schedule. I appreciate the efforts you made to allow me to accompany you into surgery. It was something I really wanted to see! I'm glad my memories of my first surgeries will have been with you. I had a lot of fun, and I will take this experience with me into my future. I believe that there will be a day in my career that I'll be working with a patient and remember something that I learned from you. Thank you again! This really meant so much to me.”

“I am an Equine Dentist and am 59 years old. In 2007, I fractured my collarbone in a horse related accident. Because of the nature of my occupation, it’s imperative that I have full range of motion of all my extremities. The recovery required a surgery performed by Dr. Johnson. He inserted a plate and 5 screws to repair my collarbone. In about 7 months, he removed the plate. Thanks to Dr. Johnson and therapist Shelia, I made a full recovery. Then about a year ago, I developed a problem in my knee. The pain was excruciating and I could barely walk, let alone work. Again, my job is extremely physical and requires the use of your entire body, from fingers to toes. Again, I visited Dr. Johnson and he repaired my knee surgically. I was back doing moderate work on horses in 10 days. Shelia was supervising my rehab and helping me get back my range of motion. Of course, it took time to recover. My knee got stronger and my range of motion came back as the weeks went by. Now, a year later, my knee is perfect. I have no pain and have complete range of motion. I am on my feet all day long, doing strenuous work, working most days, and my knee never bothers me at all. As a matter of fact, I would say it’s the best part of me. As far as I am concerned, these people are the best in the business. I recommend them all the time to people with orthopaedic issues and would call on them again if I ever have another problem. They are truly healers and take a genuine concern about their patients well being. If it was not for them, I would not have been able to continue my career as an Equine Dentist. Thank you again, Dr. Johnson and Shelia.”

“Dr. Bade performed an arthroscopic surgery on my knee after I suffered cartilage damage. It had been nearly 20 years since my last surgery, which took place during my 4 years as a D1, basketball player. The results were so good that I was able to go back, against Dr. Bade's recommendation mind you, to playing basketball weekly, running long distances and hiking. I have recommended Dr. Bade many times for his excellent work and results, professionalism, and great candor.”

“Very pleased with the help I received from Dr. Johnson. I came to him in 2000, with a knee problem that had me at times on crutches. Dr. Johnson diagnosed my knee problem as osteoarthritis. The first medical group I saw diagnosed a different condition and wanted to do surgery. That is when I went to Dr. Johnson. He treated my knee with an injection and physical therapy. I have lived with my knee condition and am able to do almost most anything. I would highly recommend Dr. Johnson to anyone that asked me for a doctor.”

“I had a fusion of my left ankle on Oct. 21, 2013. I was in a non-weight bearing cast for 6 weeks, then a weight bearing cast for 6 weeks. After that, I was able to walk with the aid of a walker, a cane, and now I do not have to use anything. I have been in physical therapy for 8 weeks. I am doing well and very happy to be without that terrible pain. I am just amazed I can peddle a bike, walk down a hill without pain, and am getting ready to dance again. I am very thankful to Dr. Gabisan and all the office people, especially Nicole and Rose Ann.”
– Barbara F.
“I have been a patient of Professional Orthopaedic Associates for many years. Dr. Johnson has cared for every member of my family at some point, and I would never consider another practice for orthopaedic needs. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Tinton Falls office has an imaging center and physical therapy services on site, making it a very convenient, full-service location.”
– John G.
“I want to thank Dr. Jason Cohen and the staff at Professional Orthopaedic Associates for the care and support that I received throughout my procedure. From the time of my first phone call for my initial visit, to the most recent post-surgery check-up, I never felt as a “number,” but as someone as important as a family member. Dr. Cohen was very compassionate to the pain I was feeling as well as making me feel more at ease with the surgical procedure that was inevitable. The pain from the collapsed disc was so unbearable, that whenever I would cough or laugh, the pain would bring me to tears. As instructed by Dr. Cohen, the physical therapy made the recovery from the removing of the disc and the fusion of the two vertebrae very fast. It has now been over 2 years after the surgery, and I’ve never felt better. My husband reminds me that the scar from the incision is virtually invisible. Once again, thank you to a wonderful doctor and staff!!”

“The care and compassion I received from all of those I dealt with at Professional Orthopaedic Associates was a treat. Dr. Gesell replaced a knee for me and relieved the carpal tunnel pain I dealt with after the knee replacement, double whammy. Shortly after those issues, I was in an auto accident and shattered my arm. Thanks to Dr. Johnson, that injury was fixed. These people are sincere, good at what they do, and a pleasure to be around. I have regained an active lifestyle and look forward to having the other knee replaced. (Not really.) The best care by local professionals. Why go anywhere else? Thank you to Drs. Gesell and Johnson, and all of the women that took care of me.”
– Gene B.
“Dr. Johnson operated on both of my elbows in January and February of this year for cubital tunnel syndrome. It is truly amazing how well I have recovered. I missed almost no work, and have returned to full sports and recreational activities, including baseball and guitar.”
– Greg F.
“During the past 7 years, I needed surgery on both of my shoulders. From the beginning, Dr. Gentile provided guidance and support for my injuries. Each time he performed surgery, the discomfort and pain I experienced was eliminated. Dr. Gentile explained each procedure in detail, and spent the time to show me the x-ray and MRI pictures. giving me details on why surgery was recommended. Today, I enjoy a life without shoulder pain or discomfort.”
– Frank C.
“In 2010, during my junior year of football at Moravian College, I suffered a broken fibula and dislocated ankle in the second game of the season. I met with Dr. Johnson the following Monday, and by the end of that week, I was in and out of surgery. After a years worth of healing and rehabilitation, I made a come back for my senior season, without missing a snap the entire year. I'd like to thank Professional Orthopaedic Associates, and especially Dr. Johnson, for helping me get back on the field one more time, and making such a miserable situation go smoothly.”
– Stephen K.
“Professional Orthopaedic Associates and Dr. Glenn Gabisan in particular, represent what an orthopaedic practice and physician should be. He diagnosed my knee problem after reviewing x-rays and a MRI that were conveniently performed in the same building at the Tinton Falls office. The practice's policy is to use surgery as a last resort, which I truly appreciate. They try to see each patient within a reasonable time frame of the appointment, and they do not seem to overbook. The office staff and the technicians are extremely competent as well. I have recommended several other patients, including my gymnast granddaughter to this practice, and they were treated by other physicians of the practice in the same professional manor. In the future, if I or any friend or relative need orthopaedic attention, this is the practice I will use and recommend.”
– Edward D.
“I am so very grateful for my two new knees!! Dr. Foos has given me back my life! It had been years since I was able to exercise the way I wanted to. Now I can walk, bike, do Zumba, and enjoy moving to the music the way I used to. Swimming is still great, but I no longer have to rely on the pool for my only form of exercise. My volunteer work at the Bronx Zoo is no longer painful. There's such a lot of ground to cover, but now I'm happy to be there. This doesn't even cover playing with my grandchildren! It's amazing how much we take for granted, and how we can get used to losing it. It's easy to forget what you loved to do, but it's wonderful to rediscover them again. The care I received was wonderful. Physical therapy took several months, but following "orders" and hard work were definitely worth it. I am thankful every day.”
– Susan G.
“It was a pleasure to be a patient of Dr. Johnson. I was a patient at the Toms River office. The staff at that office was wonderful to me. I had problems with arthritis in my left knee. After taking x-rays, Dr. Johnson gave me a shot of cortisone and prescribed physical therapy. Both the shot and the physical therapy did work really well for me at the time. Dr. Johnson is a wonderful, caring doctor. Thank you.”
– Judith H.
“Could not believe that I broke my foot, nonetheless in three places. Dr. Gabisan took excellent care of me, and I would recommend his services to anyone. It was an absolute positive experience. Well, as good as it could be when one is casted!!”
– Janet U.
“My story started May 2012, when my muscle on my left knee detached from my bone. I went to the ER first, then to Professional Orthopaedic Associates. I saw Dr. Gentile, who took a MRI. After seeing the results, he set a date to operate. All that I told him was that I did not want to know anything at the time of the operation. True to his word, I did not feel anything. I came out of the operation feeling good. His professionalism, knowledge, and compassion, made me feel safe and confidant at the follow-ups. He gave me confidence to dance and to walk on my leg again I would highly recommend Dr. Gentile and his staff for any orthopaedic needs. Thank you.”
– Robert P.
“I had an open dislocation to my left ring finger (MIP joint), suffered during a rugby game. I was reaching for a loose ball when a player from the opposing team came in with her foot. This was the second injury to the same finger treated by Dr. Johnson. Previously, I had a fracture that required two pins to properly set the bone. Both injuries had amazing outcomes, and I couldn't be happier with the care I received from Dr. Johnson and the entire practice!”
– Christine D.
“I had hip replacement surgery with Dr. Gesell a year and a half ago. I can't tell you how much it has meant to me. I am "as good as new," and I can do everything I was always accustomed to do, leading an active life. The surgery took about twenty years off my age! I am so grateful.”
– Helen B.
“I had a very pleasant experience with Dr. Gesell. He is extremely nice, and a very compassionate doctor. Because I had such positive experiences, I referred my family members to Professional Orthopaedic Associates as well, and they had the same experience I did. I have nothing but high remarks for Dr. Gesell, Dr. Foos, and Kevin Ruscio, P.A.-C.”
– Daniel H.
“Excellent care and a very knowledgable physician.”

“My 17 year old daughter had a boxers fracture on her right hand. I searched for 2 days to find a doctor that would take our insurance. I could have taken her to the emergency room, which would have cost over $3000, just to be looked at WITH insurance. Then we would have been told to go to an orthopaedic doctor to reset the hand and cast it.After being on the internet for 2 days searching for a doctor, I found Professional Orthopaedic Associates at 5:55 in the evening and left a distressing message on the machine. I told them that I needed care for my daughter with this certain insurance, that NO one was taking, or no one was available to see her for 3 weeks! At 6:00, I received a very calming voice on the other end of the phone that they would be able to help us. They had an agreement to take what ever the insurance would give them. The relief was indescribable. We went the next morning at 7:30 am. The office was friendly and very professional. Dr. Johnson was great. He was very professional and very relaxed with my daughter. We laughed about her boxer fracture that is usually a male injury, from hitting a wall. Temper temper. My daughter’s care was outstanding and very professional. I would go back if I needed to any time.I was nervous that the bill was still going to be high, with one child in college and the next one ready to go to college, our money is being handled very carefully. When I received the final statement from the insurance company of what we owed, which was zero. We paid our co-pays and they stood by what they said and took what ever the insurance company paid. All I could do was thank God first, and thank Professional Orthopaedic Associates for their generosity and their integrity. I haven't been able to say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, until now. Our experience was a great blessing and a life lesson for my daughter. Never punch a wall when you’re mad.”
– Laura S.
“Dr. Foos has been an absolute caring physician since my knee surgery. He takes his time with explaining the procedure, post-op, and office visits. I am very pleased with his services, and have referred several of my friends to him. They were completely satisfied as I was.”
– Ilorraine W.
“I suffered with knee pain for quite a long time before being referred to Dr. Foos. He spoke to me, had me have x-rays and a MRI. He found that I had a torn meniscus in my left knee. I had never had surgery before and was nervous to fix my knee. Dr. Foos performed an arthroscopic procedure. Since he helped me, I have not had any pain in my knee at all. He advised me that my right knee also needed the same treatment. The x-rays had shown a slight slanting of both my kneecaps. Two years after my first procedure, he did the same procedure to my right knee. I am grateful for Dr. Foos and all the staff in that office. They were nothing but kind, happy, and reassuring. It was such a great experience that I recommend this practice constantly. I only wish other doctor visits for other reasons were as pleasant. After rehab (with Sheila) within the same practice, I have full range of motion in both my knees. I am one happy and content patient. I work two jobs and I am a single mom, and I thank God for you all for making me better so I can work. Thank you.”
